Development of Marine Microbial Polysaccharides

Development of Marine Microbial Polysaccharides

Marine habitats cover approximately 70% of the earth's surface. Microbial populations including bacteria, fungi and algae represent the base of the food pyramid in this environment. Secretions of microbial cells in the marine environment, such as polysaccharides, play an important role in the energy cycle between the sea surface and the seafloor through the aggregation of small molecules causing them to sink. It thus plays an important role in carbon sequestration and re-emission via the so-called biological pump. In addition, microbial polysaccharides help the microbial cells themselves to colonize hydrophobic surfaces, form biofilms and tolerate severe conditions such as heat, salinity and cold stress. Polysaccharides from marine microorganisms have unique properties that make them a good source of bioactive agents in many fields such as antitumor, antiviral, antioxidant, anticoagulant, food and feed applications.

Our Services

Our R&D department focuses on optimizing all aspects of marine microbial polysaccharides production and improving the biochemical and functional properties of the final product. All development work is designed to meet the specific needs of CD BioSciences' business and research partners.

  • Development of Marine Microbial Polysaccharides
    • Cellular polysaccharides development
    • Structural polysaccharides development
    • Exopolysaccharides polysaccharides (EPS) development
  • Production of Microbial Polysaccharides
A carbon/nitrogen ratio of approximately 10:1 is considered to favor optimal polysaccharide synthesis. The production process is mostly carried out by batch culture and fermentation.
  • Characterization of Marine Microbial Polysaccharides
With meticulous attention to detail, we employ advanced analytical methods to characterize the obtained polysaccharides, unraveling their complex structure and elucidating their functional properties.
  • Bioactivity Assessment
Through in vitro and in vivo assays, we investigate their antioxidant, antitumor, immunomodulatory, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, paving the way for their applications in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products.
  • Structure Analysis of Marine Microbial Polysaccharides
    • Glycosyl composition
    • Determination of absolute configuration of glycosyl residues
    • Molecular weight determination
    • Enzymatic digestion
  • Modification of Marine Microbial Polysaccharides
    • Ionic interaction
    • Crystallization
    • Radical polymerization
    • Chemical Reaction of Complementary Groups
