Description: Hemocyanin is a copper-containing respiratory protein in the hemolymph of arthropods and molluscs. It is colorless in the deoxygenated state and blue in the oxygen-bound state. It not only has the function of transporting oxygen but is also related to energy storage, maintenance of osmotic pressure, and regulation of the molting process. Hemocyanin also has phenoloxidase activity and antibacterial function and is considered an important immune molecule.
