Identification of Marine Virus

Identification of Marine Virus

Marine viruses are a class of indigenous, ultra-microscopic, non-cellular, obligate intracellular parasitic microorganisms that contain only one type of nucleic acid in the marine environment. They have the characteristics of general chemical macromolecules outside living cells and the characteristics of life after entering host cells. The existence of marine viruses includes free, adsorbed on inorganic or organic particles, non-infectious carry by marine organisms, acute or chronic infection of marine organisms and lysogenic infection of marine organisms. Free viruses are widely distributed in the ocean and are extremely abundant, mainly including a large number of bacteriophages and algal viruses. Through transmission electron microscope observation, it is found that the capsids of most freely existing virus-like particles (VLPs) in seawater are icosahedral symmetric structures. They vary in size, usually 30-100 nm in diameter, and some large virus-like structures (about 750 nm in diameter) have also been observed.
