Purification and Characterization of Marine Peptide Toxins

Marine resources have been identified as excellent reservoirs for the extraction of effective functional bioactive compounds. Therefore, a large number of peptide toxins have been isolated from marine organisms with strong antioxidant, antihypertensive, antibacterial, anticoagulant and antidiabetic activities. However, to date, a limited number of peptide toxins have been identified in marine organisms; most marine organisms with specific biological activities have yet to be discovered. Therefore, existing manufacturing techniques need to be further improved to discover more marine peptide toxins. The types and quantities of marine bioactive peptides are also more than those of terrestrial bioactive peptides. In addition, marine peptide toxins can be obtained from various marine animals, plants, and lower organisms. Each species is unique, and considering its enormous taxonomic diversity and specificity, marine peptide toxins have better biological activity than terrestrial peptide toxins in some areas. Therefore, on the basis of ensuring high selectivity and high resolution, how to improve the purification and identification of marine peptide toxins technology is a difficult and important task.

Our services

The appropriate purification method depends on the composition of the sample and your research application. If you have questions about which purification is right for your peptide toxin, our experts can provide guidance. In addition, we provide you with a customized secure information processing platform that allows you to access your biometric data wherever you are.

Our services are as follows but not limited to:

  • Membrane Filtration
In order to obtain the target peptide, our scientists usually first separate the initial peptide by membrane filtration. Membrane filtration is available at different levels.
  • Gel Filtration Chromatography
Our scientists performed gel filtration chromatography (GFC) and ion exchange chromatography on the partially purified extract. Although GFC is cumbersome, time-consuming, and costly, it has high selectivity and high resolution.
  • Ion-exchange Chromatography
Since amino acids in peptide toxins can be positively or negatively charged, our scientists applied ion exchange chromatography for the separation of peptide toxins.
  • High-Performance Liquid Chromatography
RP-HPLC can be used to fractionate peptide toxins based on their hydrophobic properties, especially when studying their structural and functional properties.
  • Hydrophobic Interaction Chromatography
