Viral Infection

Overview

Marine organisms have remarkable characteristics regarding metabolism, survival methods, information transmission, and adaptation mechanisms. Marine natural products (MNPs) are chemical components produced in organisms with important physiological functions or biological activities and are generally also called natural organic compounds. MNPs with novel structures and unique activities are one of the important sources of many clinical drugs and new drug lead compounds. Research shows that the ocean has provided humans with more than 30,000 natural products with novel structures or good activities, and the number is increasing year by year. Among them, active substances such as alkaloids, Aplysia toxin, and vidarabine can inhibit the growth and reproduction of various viruses and are the focus of future antiviral drug research. At present, a large number of MNPs or their derivatives have been approved as antiviral drugs. CD BioSciences is committed to using advanced technology and resources to develop efficient and safe antiviral drugs. With a professional team and rich experience, we can provide strong support in MNPs extraction, isolation, identification, and drug development.

Advantages of MNPs

  • Diversity. MNPs have unique molecular structures that are different from terrestrial-derived compounds, providing new structural templates for antiviral drug development.
  • A broad spectrum of biological activity. Many MNPs exhibit potent antiviral activity and can effectively inhibit the infection and replication of a variety of viruses.
  • Novel mechanism of action. MNPs often exert antiviral effects through unique mechanisms, providing new ideas for solving existing drug resistance problems.

Classic MNPs and Antiviral Activity

  • Manzamine A. Manzamine A is extracted from sponges and has significant inhibitory effects on a variety of viruses, including herpes virus (HSV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and hepatitis B virus (HBV). Its unique structure and mechanism of action make it an important target for research on antiviral drugs.
  • Fucoidan. Fucoidan is a sulfur-containing polysaccharide derived from brown algae and has demonstrated significant inhibitory effects on a variety of viruses, such as HIV, HSV-1, HSV-2, and influenza viruses. Research shows that Fucoidan can exert antiviral effects by interfering with the process of viral attachment and invasion of host cells.
  • Sphingolipid. Mainly extracted from marine bacteria, it inhibits viruses by interfering with key steps in viral replication and spread and has been shown to exhibit antiviral activity against human papillomavirus (HPV) and HIV.
  • Didemnins. Didemnins are a group of peptide compounds from ascidians that work by inhibiting viral protein synthesis and viral replication.

What Can We Offer?

  • Extraction and Isolation of Natural Products

We extract and isolate natural products with potential antiviral activity from various marine organisms, such as sponges, seaweeds, marine bacteria, etc., and then use advanced separation technology to ensure high purity and high quality.

  • Screening

We utilize high-throughput screening technology that allows us to rapidly screen for compounds with significant antiviral activity. Our screening platform can test for a variety of viruses, such as HIV, influenza, herpes, and more.

  • Compound Structure Analysis

Through modern analytical techniques such as NMR and MS, we conduct structural identification of the screened active compounds. Our chemistry team can also perform structural optimization of these compounds to improve their antiviral activity and pharmacokinetic properties.

  • Drug Efficacy Evaluation and Safety Testing

We evaluate the antiviral efficacy and safety of natural products in cell and animal models to provide reliable data support for further drug development.

  • Customized R&D Cooperation

We work closely with global scientific research institutions and pharmaceutical companies to provide customized R&D services and promote the development and commercial application of marine natural product antiviral drugs.
