Neurodegenerative Disease Model
Overview
Neurodegenerative diseases are a class of diseases that cause cognitive or functional impairments due to the gradual loss or even death of neuronal structure or function, such as Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). These diseases have placed a huge burden on human health and society. Traditional disease models are often limited by their complexity and reproducibility. Marine organism models, with their unique physiological and genetic characteristics, provide new possibilities for studying neurodegenerative diseases. CD BioSciences provides marine organism model services for neurodegenerative diseases to better understand the pathological mechanisms of these complex diseases and develop effective treatments.

Advantages of Our Marine Organism Models
Marine organism models such as zebrafish, sea urchins, and marine mollusks have shown many unique advantages in the study of neurodegenerative diseases.
- Unique nervous system structure. Marine organisms have diverse jumpy system structures, which are similar to the human nervous system in some aspects but have unique complexity.
- Easy-to-operate genetic systems. Many marine organisms have efficient gene editing and expression systems, which facilitate gene function analysis and disease simulation.
- Fast life cycle. Some marine organisms have a short life cycle, which can greatly shorten the experimental cycle and improve efficiency.
What Can We Offer?
CD BioSciences provides comprehensive marine organism model services, covering all stages from model construction to functional validation, to meet the diverse needs of neurodegenerative disease research.
- Model Construction
- Behavioral Analysis
- Drug Screening
- Molecular and Cell Biology Analysis
We use modern gene editing technologies, such as CRISPR/Cas9, to construct marine organism models with specific gene mutations or gene knockouts to simulate the pathological characteristics of human neurodegenerative diseases.
Through high-resolution imaging and advanced behavioral analysis techniques, we further evaluate the model's motor function, learning and memory abilities, etc., to reveal the impact of neurodegenerative diseases on behavior.
Using our efficient drug screening platform, we conduct large-scale compound screening to discover potential therapeutic drugs and evaluate their efficacy and toxicity in marine organism models.
We can use a variety of technologies, such as RNA sequencing, proteomics, immunohistochemistry, etc. to conduct in-depth molecular and cell biology analysis to explore the molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways of diseases.
Applications of Our Marine Organism Models in Neurodegenerative Disease Research
- Alzheimer's Disease
- Parkinson's Disease
By introducing mutations in the human APP and PSEN1 genes into zebrafish, we could mimic the pathological features of Alzheimer's disease, including the formation of Aβ plaques and cognitive dysfunction. This model has been used to screen a variety of potential drugs and revealed several key pathological pathways.
Using sea urchin and zebrafish models, we were able to construct mutants of various Parkinson's disease-related genes (such as LRRK2 and SNCA) and observed movement disorders and dopamine neuron degeneration similar to human disease. These models provide valuable resources for understanding the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease and drug development.
